Cut about two pounds of of stew meat into one-inch pieces and place that in a covered slow cooker. Some people add wine (I don't).
Mix about one-quarter-of-a-cup of all-purpose flour, a couple of good pinches of salt, and some pepper to balance the salt in a mixing bowl. Give it a few stirs and pour that over your meat.
Add about one-and-one-half-cups of beef broth, four or five chopped carrots, one or two potatoes chopped up, at least one onion chopped up, a good bit (one teaspoon or a little more) of Worcestershire sauce, a good bit of paprika, at least one clove of minced garlic and a bay leaf and stir that around.
Keep an eye on this. If you're slow-cooking this---the best way to do this---it might take as long as twelve hours. You can cheat and cook it on high for six hours (or less), but you won't get the same results.
Some people add celery, liquid smoke, whole shallots, canned sweet yams, and other seasonings. They add the liquid smoke and sweet yams later.
