I just read that Leslie Jordan died yesterday. Appalshop put it well when they said "Today we've lost an eastern Tennessee icon who brought us love and life through comedy, activism and not being shy about our mountain twang. Rest easy, Leslie, and may we keep dreaming and believing in brighter tomorrows in your honor."
Leslie Jordan was openly gay and it is gratifying to me that so many people in Appalachia are mourning his passing and saying how much he meant to them. His life, which we could all be celebrating, showed that bridges can be built and crossed in principled and meaningful ways and that activism matters.
